Washington IPA Challenge This Saturday at Beveridge Place Pub

August 20th, 2009 · 6 Comments · Events, Washington Breweries

If you consider yourself a hophead, there is really only one place for you to be this upcoming Saturday. Come on out and join us starting at noon at Beveridge Place Pub for the Washington IPA Challenge!

A select group of judges (Mostly BJCP judges, brewers and other industry folk) will be gathering to blind taste some of Washington’s best IPAs and Imperial IPAs against a variety of outstanding IPAs from around the country. Can a Washington brewery stand up to the Challenge? We’ll find out. At the end of the tasting, we’ll announce the winning IPA and the winning Imperial IPA.

The private judging is just the beginning. For the public, Beveridge Place will have about 12 IPAs on tap for you to taste blind and vote for a favorite yourself. They’ll have blank, numbered taps and IPAs will be available in sample size glasses. Vote for your favorite and help determine the winner of the Customer Favorite award. Keep track of which ones you liked, and the lineup will be revealed around 5pm and the overall winner will be announced after the votes are counted. According to the pub, the public portion of the challenge will be focused on WA IPAs. I haven’t seen the draft lineup, but knowing Beveridge Place….you won’t be disappointed. This is a great opportunity to throw your preconceived notions out the window and see which IPA comes out on top.

Complete results will be posted here on Seattlebeernews.com after the Challenge, and there will also be a writeup in the next issue of the Northwest Brewing News. Hopefully, I’ll be writing about how WA IPAs kicked butt…

Also, Beveridge Place will be tapping a cask of the Pike Double IPA at 6pm after the blind tasting!

I am excited to see what the public blind tasting will reveal. 12 IPAs on tap, eh? Sounds like a cab ride home. Sweet.

Yeah, a cab or bus ride will definitely be in order on Saturday!

Just to clarify, BPP will be pouring exclusively WA IPAs for the public. Gary decided that all 12 taps will be from in state, and I’m sure he’s got some great ones.

The private competition will definitely be about 1/2 WA and 1/2 from outside the state. There should be bottles of some great stuff from out of state left over after the competition, and we’ll pass around whatever is left…

    cross-posted from Washington Beer Blog:
From 3-6 the same day there is an MS Fundraiser at the Bev Place as well. There will be a great raffle and Bratwurst for a donation. Help soak up all that yummy IPA with a brat! For any non-hopheads in attendance, all proceeds from Georgetown’s Roger’s Pilsner will go to the MS Ride.

Jessica – Thanks for the heads up. That’s great! Some people might be ready for a Roger’s after all those IPAs…
