If you consider yourself a hophead, there is really only one place for you to be this upcoming Saturday. Come on out and join us starting at noon at Beveridge Place Pub for the Washington IPA Challenge!
A select group of judges (Mostly BJCP judges, brewers and other industry folk) will be gathering to blind taste some of Washington’s best IPAs and Imperial IPAs against a variety of outstanding IPAs from around the country. Can a Washington brewery stand up to the Challenge? We’ll find out. At the end of the tasting, we’ll announce the winning IPA and the winning Imperial IPA.
The private judging is just the beginning. For the public, Beveridge Place will have about 12 IPAs on tap for you to taste blind and vote for a favorite yourself. They’ll have blank, numbered taps and IPAs will be available in sample size glasses. Vote for your favorite and help determine the winner of the Customer Favorite award. Keep track of which ones you liked, and the lineup will be revealed around 5pm and the overall winner will be announced after the votes are counted. According to the pub, the public portion of the challenge will be focused on WA IPAs. I haven’t seen the draft lineup, but knowing Beveridge Place….you won’t be disappointed. This is a great opportunity to throw your preconceived notions out the window and see which IPA comes out on top.
Complete results will be posted here on Seattlebeernews.com after the Challenge, and there will also be a writeup in the next issue of the Northwest Brewing News. Hopefully, I’ll be writing about how WA IPAs kicked butt…
