I think many brewers would say that one of the more challenging aspects of brewing is creating beers at low alcohol levels that still manage to have a full-flavored and interesting profile. Most brewers can easily throw enough hops or malt at a beer to pack in flavor, and higher alcohol beers can hide their flaws easier. It takes true skill to create beers that are low in alcohol, yet intriguing and pleasing.
If you’re a fan of these low alcohol beers, don’t miss Session Fest at Naked City Taphouse. The fest will feature over 25 different beers weighing in at 5% ABV or below, so feel free to have a few. Things kick off this Thursday, July 14, at 6pm and will run for more than a week through Sunday, July 24. There are currently sixteen beers confirmed for the event, and all hail from Washington. In addition, there are three ciders < 5% ABV that will be pouring.

With a huge send off (Thursday July 14th) we invite you to choose from 12 different beers all 5.00% Alcohol by Volume or below. Plus as each brewery contributed beer is depleted another local, Washington beer takes its place. In all this week long event will feature over 24 different Washington breweries. And who knows we might even sneak in a few kegs from across the Oregon / Idaho border.
Foggy Noggin Brewing’s ultimate session beer – Bit O’Beaver (English Bitter) – 3.4% ABV will be making an appearance during this great event.
I’m looking forward to this. Two comments:
– Elysian Brewery on Cap Hill currently has a really nice session beer on tap, at 3.4% ABV.
– It’s rather questionable to call a 5% beer a session beer. Naked City is stretching the definition of that term with the above list. But based on FogNog’s comment it sounds like there will be some that aren’t listed above. A 3.4 English Bitter, that’s a real session beer!
