Chuckanut Brewery Set to Expand Capacity

March 14th, 2012 · No Comments · Washington Breweries

Great news from Chuckanut Brewery up in Bellingham. If this means more product for the Seattle area, I’ll be a happy man.

Press release:

Chuckanut Brewery at 601 W Holly St, Bellingham is once again poised to expand its brewing capacity. Chuckanut was successful in reorganizing its debt and including additional funding to order 5 new twenty barrel fermenters, associated kegs, and raw materials. Umpqua Bank, based in Oregon and new to Washington State, has organized and funded the SBA loan that will give the brewery additional equipment to handle a larger volume of kegged beer to its wholesale and retail customers.

After receiving the national title of Small Brewpub of the Year 2009 from the Great American Beer Festival in September 2009, Chuckanut began searching for additional funding to add more fermentation tanks. The funds came through a private equipment leasing group, Pinnacle Finance, in Tacoma, WA in 2010. The tanks arrived in June 2010 and with the growth of accounts Chuckanut signed Click Distributing for their Seattle market in January 2011 and Dickerson Distributing in March for northern Puget Sound.
By June 2011 Chuckanut Brewery was again at capacity. After winning Small Brewing Company of the Year 2011 from the national Great American Beer Festival in September 2011 the brewery began to search for a bank to reorganize its loans and fund growth. Umpqua came through to help Chuckanut. The new tanks will be delivered in early June and put into production by July. It will take several months to realize the beer produced in the tanks as Chuckanut ages its ales 3-4 weeks and its lager 6-8 weeks making full realization of the additional tanks by late August or September.
