The 2012 Fresh Hop Throwdown at The Noble Fir is in the books, and North Sound Brewing took top honors from the judges with their Hopsolute IPA. 17 fresh hop beers from WA and OR were featured at the event. There was a blind  judging of all the beers earlier in the day, and the beers with the top four scores were:

1) North Sound Brewing Hopsolute IPA
2) Snipes Mountain Brewery New Sheriff
3) Bainbridge Island Brewing Locabore
4) Anacortes Fresh Hop Pale Ale

There were a lot of great beers pouring (full list here) and some stiff competition across the board; quite a few really good beers landed outside the top 4 spots. A big thanks to Ellen, Rick, Elliot, Ryan and the rest of the staff at The Noble Fir for handling a huge crowd as well as they possibly could. Also, a big thanks to the judges that participated and the breweries that were a part of the Throwdown.

I’d love to hear what other people’s favorites of the day were. Feel free to leave a comment.

I would imagine that several of these fresh hop beers are still on tap at The Noble Fir, so if you missed the event you can stop by when they open back up Tuesday (4pm) to see what is left.

I certainly didn’t arrive in time to try all 17 beers, but the North Sound Hopsolute was freaking delicious. I had already tried the Snipes New Sheriff at Fremont Oktoberfest and it was my absolute favorite of the festival (and a session beer!)

I was somewhat put off by Black Raven Mosaic. It was tasty up-front but it felt like there was no follow-through.
