Belgianfest was a great time this past weekend. There were quite a few beers I had hoped to try that I just couldn’t fit in to one session…and with many of these packing a big punch, doing both Belgianfest sessions is not suggested. Ramblin’ Road Brewery made a great first impression with their Back-Country Bourbon. I hope to see more of this Spokane brewery at other local festivals. Other favorites included the Big Al Brewing Sauvin Blanc, Elysian’s Strawberry Rhubarbarella (sour!), Anacortes Bourbon Barrel Dubbel, American Stupid Sexy Flanders, and Ram didn’t disappoint with their sour brown. Yes, my samples leaned heavily toward the sours! Cheers to the brewers and organizers for another great event. Check out some photos from the fest by SBN friend +Russ on Flickr.
Today is the day that Big Time Brewing releases their Whiny the Complainer Triple IPA, which in addition to being a great beer is a spoof on the popular Russian River Pliny the Younger. It will be on draft at the brewery starting at 11:30am today, and there are also 30 cases of 22oz bottles available. More from Head Brewer Drew Cluley:
February 5th is THE day. The second annual release of Whiny the Complainer Triple IPA from the Big Time Brewing Co in Seattle will commence at 11:30am at the brewery. Brewed to “honor” beer aficionados, Whiny is a Triple IPA with nearly 4lbs of hops per barrel, and a healthy 10.8 % alcohol by volume. Last year’s version came in at 9.3% abv. This year the brewers decided to kick it up both in bitterness and flavor hops, and well as alcohol. A few quarter barrels will be released around town but the majority of the 12 barrel batch is slated to pour at the Big Time through February.
Outlander Brewing, located in Fremont, has a few interesting new beers being released over the next few weeks. They will be releasing a beer for Valentines Day called Goats N Roses, which is brewed with horny goat weed and rose petals. They will also release Graham Cracker, which is brewed with 14 lbs of graham cracker.
