It’s that time of year again. Even though summer is far from over, pumpkin beers are starting to hit the shelves. There is a lot of pumpkin-related news from Elysian Brewing in the press release below, including information about this year’s Great Pumpkin Beer Festival.
Atypical to summertime practices of the carefree, the orange-minded brewers at Elysian have been thinking, breathing, and brewing pumpkin to prepare for its return to the shelves this August. This seasonally unseasonal tradition is part of the fabric of the brewing team and, each year, it all begins with the return of Night Owl, Elysian’s flagship pumpkin beer.
Brewed with over seven pounds of Oregon pumpkin per barrel and spiced with the classic pie blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice, Night Owl will be available August 1 in six-packs, 22-ounce bottles, and on draft in all Elysian’s markets throughout the Northwest and beyond.
Elysian’s pumpkin patch grows with the return of Great American Beer Festival silver medal winners, The Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale (2007) and Dark o’ The Moon Pumpkin Stout (2010), along with Punkuccino Coffee Pumpkin Ale, an instant crowd favorite after its debut in bottles last year. These coveted specialty brews can be found in limited 22-ounce bottles and draft.
Elysian’s four bottled pumpkin beers are just the tip of the gourd: by the time the Great Pumpkin Beer Festival returns for its 11th year, the Elysian crew will have brewed almost 20 different pumpkin beers! These beers, among many others, will be featured at this year’s fest on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3 at Elysian’s Airport Way production facility in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood. The GPBF celebrates the gourd with around 80 different pumpkin beers from across the country, the sporadic sounds of Chaotic Noise marching band, KEXP DJs Stevie Zoom and Riz Rollins, games, Pumpkin Royalty, local food trucks, a costume contest, and more. The highlight of the 21+ fest is the tapping of Giant Pumpkins that have been scooped, scorched, filled with beer, sealed, conditioned, and then tapped for all to enjoy. Tickets go on sale August 1.
New to this year’s fall event lineup, on Sunday, September 27 from 11am-3pm, through the joint efforts of Elysian and Krainick Dairy Farms in Enumclaw, the Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off comes to Seattle! This event honors the amazing growers in our region (who make it possible for us to feature giant pumpkins and fill them with beer). Giant pumpkins are hauled in, judged, weighed, and prize money is awarded to the winners. This all ages, family-friendly event is an official, sanctioned event by The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC). Join us in the lot at Elysian’s Airport Way production facility. No tickets are required.
