NW IPAs Dominate in Round 2

March 2nd, 2009 · 8 Comments · Uncategorized

While many of us were pulling for all the NW IPAs to do well in Round 2 of the NIPAC this past weekend, I’m not sure anyone would have predicted the domination that our beloved IPAs smacked down on some very well-known challengers. The NW won all five of their matchups, including upsets of what could be termed 2 different “#1 seeds”.

You can see the full bracket results here: http://brackets.brewingnews.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=306230

Here are the results of the NW matchups in Round 2:

– Boundary Bay IPA takes down the well-known Bear Republic Racer 5 (none of us are surprised, but the rest of the country probably is…)
– Rogue Yellow Snow IPA defeats the midwest heavyweight of Bell’s Two-Hearted (I picked the Rogue upset here – hell yeah…great beer.)
– Big Sky IPA defeats Mad Anthony Sofa King’s Bitter IPA
– Deschutes Inversion IPA defeats Magic Hat HIPA
– Laurelwood IPA defeats Avery IPA

Round 3 Matchups:
Big Sky IPA vs. Moylan’s IPA
Boundary Bay IPA vs. Deschutes Inversion IPA (NW vs. NW!)
Rogue Yellow Snow vs. Marin IPA
Laurelwood Workhorse IPA vs. Hoppin’ Frog Hoppin’ to Heaven IPA

Let’s keep it rollin’!

Not showing much PNW pride here, but I’d give Racer 5 a close win over Boundary Bay (maybe a 2 point win in overtime) and Tw0-Hearted would beat the living crap out of Yellow Snow (a rout of at least 20 points). But that’s just one retard’s opinion.

I call Laurelwood Workhorse to take it all.

F you losers! PNW rules! I’ve been in Chicago for a few months now and can’t find an IPA to save my life.

Pliny isn’t even in the running!

yeah, the racer 5 loss to BB IPA is a head scratcher. i think the former is much better than the latter.

I am with the Workhorse taking all of them. I would like to point out that it isn’t “Laurelwood IPA”, as they still are serving 3 or more different IPA’s currently still.

    1. Workhorse IPA
    2. Hop Monkey IPA (Also a great IPA)
    3. Boss IPA (retired, but still being served in a few last places).

Wow, I’m a little shocked that Bell’s is out of the running. I like Rogue, but Two-Hearted Ale is among the best IPA’s I’ve had the pleasure of sampling.
