Warning: There is no beer content in this post. My alma mater, the Purdue University Boilermakers, rolls into Eugene for a prime-time night game against the Oregon DucksĀ this Saturday, and I just wanted to say GO BOILERS to all the local Ducks fans (who UW and OSU fans seem to love sooooo much).
I was originally planning on heading down to Eugene for a long weekend to tour breweries and head to the game. I’ll instead be going to Yosemite National Park for a long weekend. No regrets (it’s going to be an awesome trip!), but it’s rare that Purdue makes it out to the West coast. I’m probably saving myself some anguish, as Purdue is picked to be a bottom-dweller in the Big Ten in the first year of new head coach Danny Hope. It probably doesn’t help matters that Oregon will be looking to redeem themselves at home after last week’s debacle at Boise State. That said, the spread is currently at 7 1/2 for the home team, and the match-up was a double overtime thriller last year in West Lafayette.
I can’t even pretend to be as in-touch with Purdue football as I was even a couple of years ago (moving out West did that to me). But, if history means anything then this will at the very least be a fun offensive game to watch. Purdue gave up over 400 yards passing to lowly Toledo last week, so there should be a good amount of back and forth. I’ll put my very uneducated upset prediction at Purdue 42 and Oregon 38. It wouldn’t be any fun if I predicted Purdue to lose…
Good luck to the Ducks, and I’m sure Boilermaker nation would appreciate it if none of your players decided to throw a punch after the game this week.
