October 30th, 2009 · 5 Comments · General Beer News, Polls

The results are in for King 5’s annual Best of Western Washington poll, which asks consumers what their favorites are in a number of categories including Best Beer Selection, Best Brewpub, and Best Beer Store.

Also, don’t forget to vote for your favorites in the Northwest Brewing News’ annual “Best of the Northwest Poll”:
http://www.brewingnews.com/northwest/bestofnwpoll.shtml
You don’t have to vote in every category; just vote in the categories you have an opinion on.

For the King 5 poll, here are the winners in the  beer-related categories:
Best Beer Selection
1) Naked City Taphouse
2) Tap House Grill
3) Brouwer’s Cafe
4) Beveridge Place Pub
5) Park Way Tavern

Best Brewpub
1) Silver City Brewery
2) Boundary Bay Brewery & Bistro
3) Big E Ales
4) Diamond Knot Brewery & Ale House
5) Redhook Ale Brewery

Best Beer Store
1) 99 Bottles
2) Full Throttle Bottles
3) Malt & Vine
4) Bottleworks
5) Gravity Beer Market

Congrats to all the winners!

Also, in another food/drink item close to my heart…the top 5 pizza joints were voted as:
1) The Rock, Wood Fired Pizza & Spirits
2) Pagliacci Pizza (tie)
2) Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria (tie)
4) Farrelli’s Pizza & Pool Co.
5) The Northlake Tavern and Pizza

The Rock chain of restaurants also make their own beer, and I’ve yet to check one out. Guess I’ll have to put that on my list of places to hit. The fact that Pagliacci’s is on this list at #2 is kind of sad to me though…there are much better pizza places in this town. I think a trip to Flying Squirrel might be in order this weekend.

The Rock’s beer is made by Fish Brewing out of Olympia… and its pretty shitty; watered down, generic styles.

The Rock Wood-Fired Pizza & Brewery has multiple locations around Seattle. But I know that none of them actually brew on site. I think they all get their beer under contract from Fish Brewing. Maybe it’s Maritime Brewing, but for some reason I think it’s Fish.

    Cheers.

Thanks to everyone who voted for us in King 5’s Best of Western Washington competition this year. We appreciate the votes and love you!! We’ll keep working hard to provide the south end with delicious brews. 🙂

p.s. The Rock beers are indeed contracted with Fish Brewing. There’s a Rock pizza pad at Crossings and the Fish guys typically stop by to say “hi” when they’re in town working on the beers.

The food out at Silver City is outstanding, i havent had a less than stellar meal there. But something about the beer just doesnt seem right, I’ve had about 4 different types and something just seems off. Plus, the The “Ridgetop Red” is an Amber Ale, major pet peeve of mine.

  • Thing Big!

Pat, I respectfully disagree with you about Silver City’s beer. I’ve found their Scotch Ale on tap to be one of the best beers I’ve tasted of hundreds and hundreds brews over the years. Also, although I agree with you that the Ridgetop Red is really an amber, it too is one of the better I’ve had in sometime. They had a Christmas beer on tap during the holidays that was divine… : )

Give it another try and perhaps try some other beers they have.

    Cheers!
