Get Out and Drink

December 11th, 2009 · 4 Comments · General Beer News

If you’re thinking about heading out for some beers this weekend, here are a few things on tap around town that might grab your interest:

Naked City Brewery & Taphouse – In addition to four of their own beers on tap, there are plenty of other interesting guest tap options. Firestone Walker Reserve is a robust porter that I haven’t seen around Seattle yet. Double Mountain Fa La La La is a 9% ABV winter ale from the Hood River, OR brewery. Or, you can take your pick of three special beers from Snipes Brewing. Winter Coyote, Diminished Returns Double IPA, and Pumpkin Death are all limited release beers that you likely won’t see around here again any time soon. If you’re looking for something more traditional, give this year’s Anchor Christmas Ale a try.

Uber Tavern (tap list as of Dec 9) – The Mendo Mello Estate Fresh Hop beer from Anderson Valley sounds tempting enough for the trip up there. Uber also has the Firestone Walker Reserve, as well as Avery the Czar Russian Imperial Stout, Silver City Fat Scotch, and good old Pliny.

Brouwer’s Cafe (tap list as of Dec 8th) – Well, the tap list online is three days old, but it should still be fairly accurate. There are several things left over from Big Wood, including the Bottleworks 10th Anniversary Wild Ale from New Belgium. Silver City Fat Woody is out of this world. The Black Raven Saison is a very nice example of the style. They are also pouring Port Brewing Imagination #1 Saison w/ Brett, Amnesia Copacetic (LOVE IT), and Schooner Exact Hoppy the Woodsman.

Elliott Bay Brewing (West Seattle) – Elliott Bay just tapped a Tabasco-barrel version of their Pilot Light as their monthly barrel-aged beer. Get it while it lasts. They’re also pouring the Hoppus Callosum Double IPA, which I really enjoyed earlier this year. Another highlight is their Riot Ale, which is a strong pale ale made for the 10th anniversary of the WTO riots in Seattle. If you like a hoppy red ale, their Batch #200 is an 8.4% 70 IBU Imperial Red Ale. Actually, now that I look at their email it looks like these are beers that will be “available in December”. But, I already wrote it out and maybe they’ll be there…the Tabasco Pilot Light will be for sure (unless it’s gone already).

Malt & Vine – For us West-siders, it might be tempting to make a trip over the bridge this weekend. They are currently pouring one of only four kegs of Limb & Life to make it to Washington. Limb & Life is a collaboration between Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada, and it is a 5% ABV session beer. It is made from the second runnings of another collaboration beer between the two breweries: Life & Limb (10.2% ABV). M&V is also pouring a keg of Thor’s Fury Black Ale from Odin Brewing, which I have yet to try.

That should give you plenty of ideas to torment your liver for a while this weekend.

I am a huge fan of brewmaster Doug at Elliott Bay Brewing. His regulars are rock solid and he is also creative as hell. I sampled some of the Tabasco-barrel Pilot Light recently. Ay, caramba! La cerveza es muy caliente! Be careful.

FW Reserve @ Uber is a must get and Snipes Diminished Returns is a strong, citrusy 2x IPA that wont leave you bitter.

Nice update Kaiser. Enjoy the weekend!

Ahhh, it’s 3pm on the East Coast, and I think I have already been out and drinking a little too much.

According to a recent Brouwer’s tweet, they will have Life & Limb and Limb & Life together on 12/29.
