Seattle Beer Week: Events and Highlights for Sunday, May 16

May 16th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Events, Washington Breweries

Sunday may be a day of rest for many, but don’t expect the fun to stop for Seattle Beer Week. Event highlights are below, followed by a full list of today’s events.

Iron Brewer at Beveridge Place Pub – Take the concept of the hugely-popular Iron Chef competition, and apply it to beer and you get BPP’s Iron Brewer. They selected unique ingredients for 3 pairs of breweries facing off against each other. The breweries took the ingredients and brewed up a beer of their choice for customers to sample blind and then vote for their favorites. In the first matchup, Hale’s Ales will square off against the Snoqualmie Falls Brewing Company, with the difficult task of using Spruce and Fig. In the second matchup, Big Time Brewery will test their mettle against Redmond’s Black Raven Brewing Co,  with the secret ingredient being Indian Curry spices! In the third matchup, Naked City Brewing will take on Eastern Washington’s Snipes Brewery, using both Heather and Mugwort, a midevil spice that was used (oddly enough) in beer for a short time, and also to ward off evil spirits!

Black Raven Brewery Night at Hopvine – Black Raven Night at the the Hopvine! Celebrate one of the area’s great new breweries. Come meet the brewers and sample some fantastic northwest beer. Rumor has it they will have a small keg of their outstanding Wisdom Seeker Double IPA.

Allagash Night With Rob Todd at Whisky Bar – Rob Tod, founder, Head Brewer and all around cool guy will be on hand to tell tall tales of the creation of Allagash Brewery. Some rare kegs to be tapped so get there early.

Wow…that sounds fantastic. Sounds like I missed out on that one.

Ended up doing Cheese Fest and then BBQ’n fresh salmon on a cedar plank and eating Dungeness back at our place. Nice day, and I’m a bit recharged for more beer today.

Taking it easy sounds like a good idea!! Though horribly hungover, I was able to hit Cheese Fest for a bit Saturday and pick up some goodies.

The ’09 batch of Cascade Vine is fantastic IMO. The Bruery event was subdued, but nice to try a bunch of his stuff on draft. The Humulus Rice was the highlight for me and I expect many of those to remain on draft for a bit.
