Intro: Brewed for the Mens Room radio show on 99.9 KISW The Rock in Seattle, this beer is being noticed by craft beer drinkers and listeners of the radio show alike. Sales of the beer have really taken off since its release in 22oz bottles a couple of months ago, and local retailers continue to see bottles fly off the shelves. A portion of the proceeds go to the VA Puget Sound Fisher House and the Ft. Lewis Fisher House. They have raised over $10,000 already.

Description: Pours a dark amber with medium head that sticks around. Lightly sweet malt aroma with citrus hops coming through. Taste is a very balanced mix of citrus hops and mild sweet caramel malts. Finishes with a strong bitterness that wakes you up but does not overwhelm. The malt is lighter than your average “NW style” red ale, and the hops really carry this beer. It’s really a pretty fantastic session brew and almost drinks more like a pale ale than a red ale.

Verdict: Buy it

I’m in awe of the thrill in the air about Elysian’s Mens Room Original Red Ale. The first week it appeared on our market there was such an electricity in the air every day at drive-time as men began pouring in our doors, sharing the same question, “Mens Room— is it here?”

In the first 5 days, we sold 90 cases. Our latest stock arrived at the store on Monday, September 13th, which ups our store’s tally to 200 cases received.

In just 5 days, Mens Room Original Red has knocked our #1 seller of 2010 into a #2 position. A position that beer has retained for nearly 8 months.

It’s amazing what being the official beer of a drive-time man-focused radio show can do.

The beer is tasty, satisfying the needs of thousands of Puget Sound area beer drinkers —and it will act as a gateway beer for many men as they transition from mass-produced fizzy yellow beer into craft ales. And Elysian makes donations to the VA Fisher House for every bottle sold. What could be better?

Thank you Elysian Brewery & KISW 99.9FM Mens Room for creating this beer.

i dont know…i was super excited when i saw elysian had a red, but (similar to ridgetop red and red menace) its not really a true red, i guess its an alright beer but as a red aficionado i was disappointed

This beer is fantastic! My only problem with it is the small number of stores that carry it! And those who do carry it can’t keep it in stock. I just did the math… of the 27, 228 bottles sold in the last 5 days of August, I got 6. And the only store within 20 miles of my house that carries them sold out in 3 days. I’m not a beer aficionado, and I don’t know what constitutes a “true” red, so for all those out there saying it’s not a true red, forget about it. This beer supports our veterans, which does make it a true red white & blue beer! “Because we think it’s YUMMY… down the hole-a, bitchola!”

I like to keep your brew on hand for my son when he comes by. But it is soooo expensive–how about a coupon once in a while?! Also, the ONLYL place I can buy it is Fred Meyer, who else carries it?
