Portland’s Concordia Ale House will hold their Beer Brawl IV starting today, February 21 and lasting through Sunday, February 27. This battle pits beers from Washington, Oregon, and California against each other and allows customers to sample blindly and vote for their favorites. Washington took the crown for the second time last year, when they beat Oregon by a slim four votes. Last year’s winning Washington lineup included Black Raven Totem Pale Ale, Pike Double IPA (from Seattle Beer Week), Hale’s Pikop Andropov’s Rushin’ Imperial Stout, and Snipes Coyote Moon.
Each state has a representative/captain from a brewery who picks their state’s lineup. For the second year in a row, Hale’s Bill Prieb will be picking the Washington lineup. He picked the winners last year, so hopefully he can manage a repeat! Captains will pick a beer for each of the four categories: Pale Ale, Imperial IPA, Stout, & Brewer’s Choice. Customers can then get a flight of all twelve entries and vote for their favorites. The state that gets the most total votes wins, and the beer that gets the most individual votes gets the Most Outstanding Beer award, which went to Deschutes Hop Henge last year.
