Silver City Brewery has announced that they will be releasing bottles of Le Fat this Friday at their new taproom at the brewery in Bremerton. What is Le Fat, you ask? Why, it’s an “oak barrel aged Belgian sour Scotch ale”, of course. First, they take their Fat (Bastard) Scotch Ale and ferment it with Belgian yeast. Over time, the once sweet base beer developed sour characteristics. Then, they aged the beer extensively in Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet wine barrels. The barrel aging helps to add character from both the oak and the fruit, while mellowing some of the other base beer flavors. The result should be interesting to say the least.
Le Fat will be released at their taproom this Friday, May 25 at 5pm in corked 750ml bottles for $19.99/EA. The taproom and brewery is located at 206 Katy Penman Avenue in Bremerton.

Introducing La Fat…
Le Fat – Oak Barrel Aged Belgian Sour Scotch Ale
A scotch ale that is a scotch ale no more. Leaving its Scottish roots long behind in the summer of 2010, the ale adventured out to find its own way. Belgian influences from a host of micro-organisms have soured this once sweet behemoth.
Hints of fig, plum and tart cherries occur naturally; the result of its unique fermentation. Over time, La Fat has softened and mellowed while gaining refinement and character through extended aging in Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet barrels.
