4 Years of Seattle Beer News and Still Kicking

This week marks the 4-year anniversary of my first post here on Seattle Beer News. While I originally started out writing for the now defunct Seattlest and then had my “What’s on Tap” blog over at Seattle PI for a couple of years, it wasn’t until January 23, 2009 that I started posting here at Seattle Beer News.

It has been a fun four years. Much has changed over that period, both in the beer world and my personal life. I don’t have quite as much time as I used to for the blog, but I would like to think I’m still keeping up pretty well. Assuming I can keep things going, maybe I’ll pull together some sort of celebration for the 5-year anniversary next year. I do like an excuse to get a bunch of people together to drink special beers.

It is funny to think back to how I even started writing about beer. I moved here in 2005 and had started a fantasy baseball league, and for the 2007 season I was having a real hard time finding a couple of managers to fill out our league. I somehow got in contact with then editor at Seattlest, Seth Kolloen, and he put together this Q&A on Seattlest to help me in my search (no, that is not a pic of me…just my buddy “O-dawg”). In the process, I noted that Seattlest was looking for contributors back then, and they were particularly in need of someone to cover the busy beer scene in Seattle. I had zero writing experience, but enough beer drinking experience to make a go of it. I have learned a lot about writing and beer along the way over the past 6 years.

Looking forward, I would like to get back in the habit of more “value-added” content, such as interviews, beer and food pairings, beer travels, etc… The news aspect is obviously valuable and interesting, but it is those other items that are the most fun to write about. We will see if I can get back on track in those departments.

Thanks to everyone for (hopefully) enjoying Seattle Beer News over the past 4 years, and cheers to another 4.
