Back in January when the brewers from Black Raven Brewing were in Alaska for the Great Alaska Beer & Barley Wine Festival (where they took 3rd place this year; 1st in 2012), they headed to Midnight Sun Brewing Company in Anchorage to collaborate on a special beer. These breweries are two of my favorites in the country, and it is safe to say I’ve been excited to try what they brewed together.
This Saturday, they will be releasing “Sun of a Beak” on draft at the Black Raven Brewing taproom starting at noon and then in bottles at Malt & Vine starting at 5pm. They ended up brewing an imperial coconut porter that was then aged in bourbon barrels. Black Raven’s “Coco Jones” coconut brown porter is a fantastic beer, so I have high hopes for this one.
Black Raven’s Head Brewer/Owner Beaux Bowman and Midnight Sun’s Head Brewer Lee Ellis will be at both establishments to chat up the collaborative process and reminisce about brewing the beer.
It will be available on draft at Black Raven, and both on draft and in 22oz bottles at Malt & Vine.
In addition to these two Seattle Beer week events, you can taste the beer at a Midnight Sun/Black Raven brewers dinner at Bravehorse Tavern on Wednesday and at a Midnight Sun/Black Raven brewers night at The Burgundian on Friday, 5/17. Possibly at a couple of other events…
