Whenever the argument of “Best Beer Cities in the US” comes up, a big part of my case for Seattle is that on top of our great local Washington beer we get sent much of the best that Oregon has to offer (Cascade, HoTD, Deschutes, Boneyard, Crux, Upright, Double Mountain, Fort George, pFriem, Oakshire, Pelican…I could keep going for quite a while). These beers might not be brewed here, but I sure do enjoy drinking the hell out of them at local beer bars.
We now have another OR brewery to add to that list with the addition of Breakside Brewing this week. Breakside started out in 2010 as a small brewpub in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Portland. I first visited in 2011 and quite enjoyed the beers, and on multiple return visits things have been just as impressive. When they opened a new 30bbl production facility in Milwaukie, OR in early 2013, Breakside said they’d start distribution to Seattle sooner rather than later. This made me happy.
Breakside will be represented by Click Distributing, and I’ve heard that bottles have already started to hit some local retailers. Their year-round bottled beers are their flagship IPA, a Pilsner and their Wanderlust IPA. Their winter seasonal, Big Country Winter Ale, is also currently available. Their beer will also be available on draft, and they will be pouring multiple offerings at 4 release events in Seattle & Tacoma starting today. Details on the events are below. Brewmaster Ben Edmunds and owner Scott Lawrence will be on hand to introduce the multiple GABF and World Beer Cup award winning brewery to Washington.
Cheers to Breakside for making the trip up to Seattle. I’m quite excited to have them in the market.
