Drizly Brings Beer, Wine & Liquor Delivery Service to Seattle

November 6th, 2014 · 1 Comment · General Beer News

I really can’t imagine needing a liquor delivery service (you should see how stocked our fridge is), but for those who have always wanted the convenience of having someone bring you a six-pack to your doorstep, Drizly has you covered. They promise 20 to 40 minute delivery service with “the same prices as in-store”.

The selection available to you depends on your location and which retailer they partner with in that area. Their press release has a quote from the owner of Downtown Spirits, which has been providing limited delivery service themselves for at least a year. It looks like they are the main retailer for a chunk of their delivery area. They have a solid beer selection, so that’s a pleasant choice. I believe that Ballard Liquor is their retailer for orders in the Ballard area, and their beer selection is much more limited.

Drizly uses a nifty app so that you can easily order from your phone. I set up an account this morning and tested it out, and it is quite simple to use. They don’t deliver to my home address (just outside their delivery area), but using a downtown address I could have 4 bottles of Firestone Walker Wookey Jack delivered at a very fair price of $5.99 per 22oz bottle, plus tax and a $2.50 tip. There is typically a $5 delivery fee, which Drizly is waiving through November 30.

For anyone under 21 thinking that this might be an easy way to get your hands on some booze, this is what their website says about their process for ensuring that customers are 21+:

Drizly has proprietary ID verification technology that it provides to its retail partners that allows drivers to scan IDs for more than a barcode. Drizly is also the only company that has sought and received blessing for our business model from state alcohol regulators.

I have a downtown address. You can have as many F.W beers sent to my place as you’d like and I’ll “keep it in escrow” for you.
