Toronado to Host Barrel-Aged Night With Portland’s Breakside Brewery

December 15th, 2014 · No Comments · Events, Oregon Breweries

Breakside Brewery is making some of the best beers in the Northwest these days. Aside from their GABF-medal-winning IPAs, they continually produce an array of interesting styles and offerings, including barrel-aged beers.

Toronado will be hosting Breakside for a barrel-aged night on Tuesday, December 16 starting at 6pm. It looks like seven barrel-aged beers from Breakside will be pouring. You can see the full list with details below.

New World Bruin: 9% West Coast interpretation of a Flanders Red, this beer features a blend of old & young barrel aged sour beer.

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Aztec: 11.5% Award-winning, oak-aged version of our Aztec ale(strong amber ale made with habanero and serrano chilies and cacao nibs from Mana Chocolate). The 2014 vintage of this beer spent six months in Knob Creek whiskey barrels and shows notes of vanilla, coconut, chocolate, and red fruit.

Apollo & Dionysus: 9.7% This is the barrel-aged version of our collaboration beer with Widmer Brothers Brewing, Saison a Fleurs. The base saison is made with jasmine, chrysanthemum, and Szechuan peppercorn. The beer was then aged for five months in Old Tom Gin barrels from Ransom Spirits. The result is a botanical, tart, and very dry beer that is as reminiscent of a summer cocktail as much as a heavy hitting barrel-aged beer.

Aquavit Barrel-Aged IPA: 7.8% Blended barrel-aged beer consisting of IPA that was aged in a House Spirits Krogstad Aquavit barrel and freshly brewed IPA. A happy accident created by our brewer Tom Fischer when he decided to commandeer our barrel program for a day.

Ansatz: 11% the second release in our Cellar Reserve series of beers, this rare beer is a Bourbon barrel-aged version of our Smoked Bock

Bourbon Barrel-Aged Blackberry Porter: 9.5% strong dark beer fermented at lager temperatures with rich caramel notes. this beer was then barrel-aged with Oregon blackberries in freshly emptied Jim Beam barrels.

Gin Barrel-Aged Sour Double Wit w Kaffir (Not official name): Should be around 8.5% Blend of 80% Double Wit aged in Old Tom Gin Barrels with 20% Kaffir Lime Sour Double Wit. Herbal, botanical, refreshing, tart, delicious.
